The Pub Awards 2007 - Wales Regional Winner
"Best Tenanted/Leased Pub"
South Wales Argus: February 2006
The Dorallt Inn has recently had an extension to both the building and the menu.
A new non-smoking seating area has transformed the Dorallt from a pub that serves food to a restaurant with a bar.
The food is still of the variety you would expect to find in most pubs, with a relatively simple menu, but the quality is second to none. There are no starters, but plenty of side orders can be eaten as appetizers, so I tucked into cheesy garlic bread while my girlfriend went for the garlic mushrooms.
For main course I had gammon steak with egg and jacket potato, a traditional pub meal.
I couldn't get over how large the serving was, especially for just £5.10. The gammon was thick and cooked just right, and was accompanied by a large, fresh side salad.
My girlfriend ordered vegetable lasagne, which was huge and filled with a mouth-watering variety of veg. With drinks the bill came to a terrific £23.40, superb value for a tasty, filling meal. Darren Evans

One 'grilling' you will enjoy
This is the third time I have reviewed the Dorallt , and the food and service just gets better every time.
The pub has a bar area and separate, recently expanded, restaurant area to the rear, with a children's playground and beer garden outside which offer great views across Cwmbran.
Here diners of all ages are catered for, as evident in the mix of people in the dining area when I visited with a friend.
It will come as no surprise that the menu consists of simple pub food, but, if you want good food done right, then this is the place to come. There are no starters on the menu, but plenty of filling main courses at very reasonable prices.
A specials board above the bar has some interesting dishes, including a popular range of curries for which the Dorallt is well-known.
I ordered the 24oz mixed grill, just to see if I could manage such a substantial dish. With no fewer than seven separate pieces of meat, two eggs, a choice of potato (I had mashed) peas, mushrooms and half a tomato, this one's a monster and all this for only £10.45. Bargain!
I put up a valiant fight, but had to admit defeat in the end; this one was a sausage too far.
My friend was more sensible and opted for the smaller, 16oz mixed grill, at just £7.45.
To finish, we both opted for ice cream; me caramel, my friend strawberry.
With drinks and (un-finished) side orders of garlic bread, the meal came to just £28.40, a fantastic bargain for such a filling, delicious meal.
